Inspirational story: Laura Clark

Dr Raja Gangopadhyay, Founder, International Forum for Wellbeing In Pregnancy (IFWIP) requested Laura Clark to share her inspirational work in the field of Mental Health, Emotional Wellbeing and Self-Care For Parents.

Laura is a highly respected Parenting/ Lifestyle writer & mental health advocate from United Kingdom (UK).

She suffered from Postnatal Depression / Anxiety. Now she is doing outstanding work in raising awareness and training healthcare professionals. She has created the Butterfly Mother blog where she shares “the painfully honest highs & lows of family life, including survival tips, recipes and reviews. PLUS, plenty of tips & self-care ideas for keeping mentally and emotionally well as a parent.”

This is what Laura had to say to summarise her work:

“The Butterfly Mother blog is coming up to three years old and we’ve added a few new projects during the last year. I have almost 60 blog posts relating to mental health, in particularly perinatal mental health.

Last Autumn (2017) I began a weekly Facebook Live series called Anxiety Toolkit Live where we discussed a different symptom each week and shared self-help techniques for how to manage it. There are a total of 18 videos available on The Butterfly Mother Facebook page if you want to watch the replays.

I’m currently writing a mini ebook re Anxiety Management which I hope to release this Summer.”

Laura informed Dr Gangopadhyay that she is working closely with Sarah Wood who is also doing amazing work in the UK through Lotus Petal and supporting tirelessly many mothers/ parents.

Laura further added:

“My work with Lotus Petal Family Support has grown too. Last year Sarah and I hosted our first teaching event for healthcare professionals and we are planning another for this Autumn.

Sarah’s peer support group continues on Canvey Island (UK) and I’m working with my local children’s centre in Shoeburyness (UK) to set up another group later this year.

Sarah and I have recently launched a joint YouTube channel (Lotus Petal & The Butterfly Mother) where we are sharing our experiences, peer support and recovery advice each week.”

On behalf of IFWIP, we wish Laura and Sarah all the very best for the future.
